Increased power tariff levied on industrial units suspended
Source: Our Staff Reporter November 14, 2008 LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday suspended the increased tariff of electricity levied on industrial units by directing the NEPRA to reconsider tariff and decide it within one month after affording opportunity of hearing to the petitioner-companies.
The court passed this short order while disposing of more than 100 petitions of industrial and textile units challenging increased electricity tariff. The detailed order would be released later.
Previously, the court had allowed the NEPRA to issue notification of increased electricity tariff, however, restricted it from implementing the same to the extent of over 100 petitioners - textile mills and industrial units.
The petitions were filed by All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) on the behalf of its members while dozens of industrial units individually filed petitions challenging the implementation of revised tariff of electricity at peak hours and much higher rates on commercial users.
