LAHORE - Guwalmandi police detained an alleged professional criminal for a period of one month under 16 MPO instead of registering an FIR against him, as he has always been successful in getting bail whenever he was booked by the police.
The police took this decision on the reports that the alleged criminal Safdar Jangi had never spent more than a week in the jail and always succeeded in getting bail.
He was found involved in many cases registered against him in various police stations especially in the Guwalmandi PS for criminal activities.
A police official said the said alleged criminal was giving a tough time to the local police for the last several years due to his involvement in the criminal activities. He had also been booked under section 7ATA of the Anti-Terrorism Act in a case besides 19 other cases.
Shafqat Jangi was creating law and order situation in the Guwalmandi area by scuffling with the locals and threatening them of dire consequences. He had injured many of them on petty issues. “He had become a symbol of terror not only for the local police but also for the residents of the area”, said the SHO Guwalmandi police Sheikh Nofal Zahoor.
He said the accused was among those criminals who never gave importance to the law which was evident from fact that he had been nominated in at least 19 FIRs registered against him under various sections especially under section 324.
