Edhi officials hand over six months old baby to mother

LAHORE- The official of Edhi Welfare Centre Lahore on Monday produced six months old suckling baby in the Lahore High Court whom his estranged father had abandoned at Township centre after having a quarrel with his wife. The judge handed over the baby to his mother present in the court.

On previous hearing, Justice Khalil Ahmad had directed Edhi Centre Lahore to produce baby boy in the court after officials had taken a stance that the child could not be brought back from Karachi head office because it was difficult for them to identify the petitioner’s baby among thousands of abandoned children living over there.

The judge passed this order on a habeas corpus petition filed by Sana Butt, a resident of Rana Town, Shahdara, seeking recovery of her six-month son, Usman Butt, from the custody of Edhi Welfare Centre.
