JI bewildered over talk of 'safe exit' to Musharraf
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER August 17, 2008 He was of the view that the masses should justify to hold the PPP favouring Musharraf in lieu of what benefits he did to its leaders through the promulgation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), if the PPP eluded his impeachment. With reference to the statements made by the PPP ministers about Musharraf in the recent days, he said, they leave a strong impression that underhand the PPP was levelling ground to provide a safe passage to Musharraf.
Munawar said it was our national dilemma that no military dictator was ever held accountable for his breach of the Constitution and the oppressions he did to the people and havoc played with the country. On the contrary, he added, these abrogates were laid low with honour and awards, which embolden the army to usurp power and violate the Constitution with great ease. No other person could have ever dared to violate the Constitution, had a single dictator been punished for subverting the Constitution, Munawar maintained.
The JI leader also expressed sorry that involvement of foreign powers had increased so much in our internal affairs that many states had become active in order to save a ‘nation criminal of Pakistan’. He said impeachment of Pervez Musharraf and his trial subsequently, were necessary for survival of the country, for justice and promotion of the democratic institutions therein. “For it has to become a lesson for others,” he added.
