LAHORE - The Punjab government on Saturday has issued directions to the District Coordination Officers for paying surprise visits to the District and Tehsil Headquarter hospitals, and take necessary action against those found guilty of inefficiency and negligent in carrying out their duties.
According to details, a directive by Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mehmood, in pursuance of the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, has been sent to the DCOs to pay surprise visits to the DHQs and the THQs in order to improve the working of these hospitals.
Besides this, they have been also directed to take necessary action against the doctors and the medics, who are found negligent in carrying out their duties. Thirdly, the DCOs should ensure that the concerned hospital officials are providing medicine, and are taking care of the patients in the best possible manner.
Moreover, the DCOs would look in to the attendance of the doctors and the paramedical staff, so that the latter’s attendance and presence could be ensured at the hospitals, which is a huge issue with the hospitals, especially situated in the far-flung areas of the Punjab.
The DCOs have been further directed to submit a report to the office of the Chief Secretary Punjab regarding the action taken against any doctor and the paramedical staff.
“This is an effort aimed at improving the functioning of the hospitals since the government is putting a huge emphasis on the improvement of the health facilities being provided to the masses across the Punjab. Earlier, the Chief Minister Punjab was himself paying surprise visits to the hospitals, and since it is not possible for him to do so in every nook and corner of the province, the DCOs have been directed to do his job,” said a source of the Health Department adding that now the concerned medical staff of the DHQs and the THQs would be on their toes as the boss of the District would be there to make them responsible for their deeds or misdeeds.
