Angry mob sets Lesco office ablaze

LAHORE - The protest against the unscheduled loadshedding and excessive billing took a violent turn on Monday when the angry mob attacked the Madina Colony Sub-Division Office (SDO) of LESCO and set ablaze office record and other valuables.

A group of about 200 people marched towards the LESCO office soon after a team of officials disconnected electricity supply of some consumers and removed their meters for non-payment of bills.

The LESCO office employees offered resistance initially but later fled the spot after seeing the protestors highly aggressive.

Rescue 1122 and Gujjarpura police officials said that a group of no less than 200 people, some of them equipped with clubs, marched towards the LESCO office situated near China Scheme in Gujjarpura area and started chanting slogans against the LESCO authorities for the excessive loadshedding in their area.

The SDO office employees immediately locked the main gate of the office and exchanged hot words with the protestors for using rough language against them and their seniors. Meanwhile, a few protestors lost temper and entered the office by scaling the outer walls. They opened the main gate and allowed the other protestors to enter the premises.

Meanwhile, the employees and all other officials of the LESCO office left the building from a back door, leaving the entire office at the mercy of the agitators.
