UET ranks 592 among world universities

LAHORE - The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, has been placed at 592 amongst the top-ranked universities of the world by International ‘Times’ Ranking Institute, UK 2008. It is an achievement for the university that it has got international recognition and its academic performance has been admired and acknowledged in the world.
Talking to The Nation Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen (r) Muhammad Akram Khan said he had three objectives after taking over charge of the university. First was to reorganise and reestablish the administrative structure of the university and second was to achieve merit and third to develop research directorate. He has achieved all the three objectives successfully.
Keeping in view the increasing number of male and female students, the university has constructed its two sub-campuses at Faisalabad and Kala Shah Kaku with the cooperation of Higher Education Commission (HEC). For these campuses the land has been provided by the government of Punjab and the funds for the construction works have been provided by the HEC. Marvelous and high buildings have been constructed at the old campus but the old buildings and hostels are also being demolished and new ones are being constructed. An engineering lab, studio and a library has been established at the cost of 38.994 millions at Kala Shah Kaku.
Manufacturing Technologies Center and Students Service Center have also been established at the cost of Rs 119.997 millions and 32.740 millions respectively. The government of Punjab has provided Rs 5 million for the construction of female hostels.
A foundation stone for the male hostel has also been laid recently and the estimate cost of this project is Rs 83.21 million and this will be completed within a period of 20 months. Mechatronics and Control Engineering Block have been established at the cost of Rs 120 million which are equipped with modern technology.
