SHOs get more power in 'citizens' interest'
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER November 22, 2008 LAHORE - The SHOs have been made powerful once again by bringing the investigation wing of the police stations under their command.
This was decided in conference of Regional Police Officers of Punjab presided over by the Punjab Inspector General Shaukat Javed on Saturday. Additional IG Punjab Israr Ahmad, Additional IG Investigation Salah-ud-Din Niazi, Additional IG T&T Muhammad Waseem, Additional IG PC Tallat Mehmood, Addl IG CID Malik Muhammad Iqbal and Addl IG R&D Irshad Saeed were also present on this occasion.
Many other important decisions were also taken in the meeting to improve the performance of the Punjab police.
It is pertinent to mention here that the issue of returning powers to the SHOs had remained under discussions in the past.
Earlier, under the Police Order 2002, the SHOs were looking after the affairs of the operations police only while the investigation wing of the police was working under the command of an Inspector level police officer in the police stations.
