CDG decides to confiscate adulterated milk
By IQTIDAR GILANI June 24, 2008 "Besides routine sampling, special teams will measure the density of milk with lactometer on the spot. "The adulterated milk will be confiscated", a CDG official disclosed. Unlike the past practice the adulterated milk will be confiscated for the first time. Earlier the food inspectors were only mandated to collect samples, analyse them from the laboratory and send challans of failed samples to the concerned courts for further action. This process was too mild for the adulterators to deter them from watering down milk.
"In view of the futility of this exercise, the CDG has hanged the strategy and decided to confiscate the adulterated milk to punish the culprits. This will also reduce the prospects of adulterated milk reaching to the consumers", the official said.
Milk is the most adulterated food item consumed by the Lahorites. The CDG food squad collected 97 milk samples during the last month. Out of 97 collected samples, 60 were found adulterated with water. As such 61.86 per cent of the samples collected from different parts of the city were found adulterated with water.
