Ancient but not forgotten - Mosaic art

LAHORE - Farhana Asad's solo exhibition 'Statements in stone - ancient but not forgotten' opened at the Nairang Galleries on Friday.

The exhibition inaugurated by interior designer Ghazala Rehman presents mosaic art by the artist presenting striking images of beautiful flowers, leaves and eastern motifs. The show would continue till May 26.

Mosaic is the art of creating images with small pieces of coloured glass, stone or other material. It may be a technique of decorative art, an aspect of interior decoration or of cultural and spiritual significance as in a cathedral. Asad who is based in Islamabad presents mosaic art on items of regular use in houses. The most inspiring thing is that she is perhaps one of the first artists here to use semi precious stones in mosaic art.
