Source: Our Staff Reporter August 25, 2008

LAHORE - Flour shortage badly hit Sunday bazaars again this week where the supply was not enough to the meet the increasing demand as most of the customers failed to get a flour bag on the officially fixed price.

Long queues of customers around the flour trucks was the salient feature in all the Sunday bazaars this week where the customers mostly from low-income group rushed to get flour bag on the officially fixed price of Rs 365 per 20kg bag.

Like previous week, flour was the main commodity in demand at Sunday bazaars following its prices swelled to Rs 450 per 20-kg bag in the open market. Most of the customers were interested in no other commodity in the Sunday bazaars than flour. Ironically, the shoppers complained that the flour supplied to the Sunday bazaars was substandard.

Reportedly, the flour buyers also exchanged hot words with each other in various Sunday bazaars because everybody was attempting to get a flour bag first.

On the other hand, the prices of fruits, vegetables and other food items shot up at the Sunday bazaars as compared to the last. The shoppers failed to get any relief from these weekly bazaars, set up across the City to provide low-priced food to the low-income people.
