Sunday bazaars badly hit by flour shortage

The shoppers were of the view that there was no difference in the prices of most of the food items including vegetables, fruit, chicken meat and other essential commodities at Sunday bazaars and open market. However, the difference in quality was evident to everyone, as lowest quality fruit and vegetables were being sold in these makeshift markets.

The prices of fruits and vegetables registered a surging trend this week as compared to the last week. Low quality fruit and vegetables were sold in most of the Sunday bazaars. The chicken dressed was sold at Rs 150 per kg in all the Sunday bazaars while it was being sold at Rs 148 per kg in the open market.

The rates of potato (new) remained stable and fixed at Rs 22 to Rs 26 per kilogram, similar to the last week. The official price of stored potatoes also remained unchanged and was fixed at Rs 14 to Rs 18 per kg. The price of onions also surged by Rs 5 per kg and fixed at Rs 22 to Rs 26 per kilogram from the last week price of Rs 17 to Rs 22. In majority of the Sunday bazaars the vendors sold low-grade and rotten onions.

The officially price of tomatoes decreased by Rs 5 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 24 to Rs 32 per kilogram as compared to the previous week price of Rs 34 to Rs 36 per kilogram. But the vendors were selling onion at Rs 30 per kg in all the Sunday bazaars.
