Black flags hoisted atop bar buildings again
Source: Our Staff Reporter August 26, 2008 LAHORE - Following the call of Supreme Court Bar Association, the City bars on Monday hoisted black flags in protest atop their buildings that were removed after the resignation of Pervez Musharraf, a move to gear up lawyers’ movement after PPP failed to restore deposed judges.
After Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s abdication on August 18, Aitzaz told the country lawyers to remove black flags from their bars and celebrate day of deliverance.
But after failure on the part of coalition government to restore the sacked judges, Aitzaz on August 23 asked the country bars to again hoist flags atop all the bar buildings in protest.
Following the call, representatives of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) hoisted black flags on bar buildings. However, the flags were not hoisted on the buildings of SCBA and Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) in the city. President LHCBA Anwar Kamal hoisted black flag on the bar premises in protest in the presence of about 60 lawyers including the office-bearers of the LHCBA.
It is pertinent to mention that all bar associations across the country hoisted black flags on their respective bar offices in uniformity with the directions of the National Coordination Council headed by Aitzaz Ahsan in protest against the various futile deadlines given by the political parties in the coalition. On the occasion, lawyers chanted slogans against PPP leadership which had been delaying the restoration of judges with lame excuse.
