Water releases to ease loadshedding

LAHORE - Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) has claimed to restrain the scheduled loadshedding for domestic consumers to 4-5 hours from the next month while it is being reduced to 6-8 hours from today (Monday) following the enhancement in water releases from Tarbela.
“If fluctuation in water releases situation does not occur and smooth and up to the requirement water is available for power generation, the chances being quite few, the consumers will see more availability of electricity and shutdowns will remain just two hours,” Pepco spokesperson expressed his hope.
Pepco Director General (r) Tahir Basharat Cheema informed The Nation that large scale industry, which was earlier facing up to seven hours electricity outages, will now endure just four-hour power cuts while the small industries, which is supplied power through mixed feeders, will face load management of 6 to 8 hours from Monday.
Industrial sector of the country was suffering a lot due to the loadshedding and consequently thousands of private sector employees were being fired from their jobs, so the government has set a priority to facilitate this sector.
It is pertinent to add that presently the heavy industry was suffering from scheduled power shutdown of eight hours a day and SMEs 10 hours a day.
The spokesperson said that the Pepco had now decided to reduce it to four to six hours respectively.
He said that presently power generation from Mangla water is zero, however, water inflow from Terbale has been increased to 20,000 cusecs and we are being supplied 1,000 to 2,000 mw power, generated through this water.
