LAHORE - Some senior doctors of the Mayo Hospital came hard on the institute’s former MS and presently appointed as Executive Officer Health (EDO), Lahore Dr Fayyaz Ahmad Ranjha at a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday.
The meeting was called by the Punjab Chief Minister to discuss in detail about the deteriorating conditions of health facilities in the country’s largest hospital (Mayo Hospital) and the other City hospitals.
The meeting was also attended by the King Edward Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffarullah Khan, MS Mayo Hospital Dr Zafar Ikram, MS Lady Wallingdon Hospital Afzal Shaheen, MS Lady Aitchison Hospital Dr Shagufta Zaidi, MPAs Dr Saeed Elahi, Dr Asad Ashraf, Khawaja Ahmad Ahsan, senior doctors of all the three hospitals, admin officers and other senior health officers.
In the meeting, Shahbaz expressed his displeasure over the current situation of health services and management in the Mayo Hospitals and asked the participants to present their proposals to bring about an improvement in the hospital affairs and health delivery to the patients.
An insider told that an interesting situation emerged during the meeting when Dr Basit attracted the attention of the meeting when he called Dr Fayyaz Ranjha ‘Maulana Shaukat Aziz’ of the Mayo Hospital, comparing his handling of the hospital with former prime minister Shaukat Aziz poor handling of Pakistan’s economy.
In another equally one-liner punch, Dr Basit told the meeting and CM, “Ranjha utilised all available resources and funds of the hospital but only to improve facilities at his office and residence.”
