Irregularities in LDA still unchecked

The LDA had awarded its expensive lands including petrol pumps, shops and plots to people on lease or rent since its establishment but despite the fact that lease period of some of the properties had expired over the last many years, the LDA neither bothered to cancel or extend the lease span nor retrieve such properties from an illegal possession. Authority concerned could not complete the inquiries to uproot the Mafia involved in awarding LDA’s costly lands on throwaway prices. Still there are a number of lease cases and in backlog and none of the case could be decided. The CDGL high-ups including LDA the then DG Hassan Nawaz Tarar and present City Nazim Mian Amer assured to dispose off the pending cases. While CM Shahbaz Sharif also announced to resolve the issues regarding lease and rent on priority basis but all remained unfulfilled. Sources revealed LDA rented out a big house, 51-A in Shah jamal, worth million of rupees at Rs 21,300 annually. But neither it could get the rent over the last 8 years nor get the house vacated.

The authority concerned also leased out a plot No 352-I situated in Shadman on Rs 900 annually. Crescent Model school is established on this plot. The lease of this plot has expired over the last two years, but LDA is still unmoved. Same situation is with the plot No 930-A leased out on Rs 2100, which is also under the possession of CM school. LDA also give the billion of rupees plot to Fatima Memorial Hospital on just Rs 815 rent annually. But the rent could not be received due to reason best known to authority.

There are number of LDA plots - 92, 426, 427, 465, 466, 373, 331 and 403 in Samnabad which LDA could not get back after expiration of lease period. LDA has leased out parking place to Itifaq Hospital on just Rs 13,000 annually. Initially inquiry to lease out the parking area in throwaway price continued for some period but later inquiry was brushed under the carpet.
