77pc proposed sites unsuitable
Source: IQTIDAR GILANI September 26, 2008 LAHORE - Around 77 per cent of the sites proposed by different telecommunication companies for the installation of new BTS (Base Transceiver Station) towers in the City are not suitable for the purpose, Environmental Protection Agency officials informed The Nation on Friday.
Requests of different telecommunication companies for the installation of BTS towers at 300 sites in the City are pending with the EPA, out of which about 230 places are not suitable. Majority of the proposed sites are located in congested residential areas where installation of BTS towers could disturb the normal life of nearby residents by causing serious environmental hazards.
