LDA contractors concerned over awarding contracts to FWO

Source: Our Staff Reporter August 28, 2008

LAHORE - LDA contractor association has strongly objected Punjab govt’s decision to award new contracts for the construction of roads to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) saying the step will not only deprive all registered contractors of LDA from their livelihood but also inflict financial loss to the authority.

The LDA contractor association chairman Haider Ali Mirza expressed great reservations on the move during a press conference held at Lahore Press Club here on Wednesday. All the office-bearers were present on the occasion.

He said that the former Punjab government had awarded contracts of all roads to the FWO in first mega project of CDGL housing scheme, LDA Avenue-I, meant only for the government servants and set 2006 as completion target. Regrettably, the development works in the scheme came to grinding halt as FWO with all its trained staff and machineries of international standard could not construct roads due to one or the other reasons, he maintained.
