SHC judges' fresh oath 'a betrayal to lawyers drive'

Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER August 28, 2008

Aitzaz said the SHC judges who took fresh oath are indeed very good in their profession, but acceptance to re-appointment and fresh oath was equal to accept November 3 action of General Pervez Musharraf. He said it was also a question how would their seniority be fixed and the matter would become complicated if challenged before the court of law.

Aitzaz said the lawyers were determined to carry on their movement for it was against the unconstitutional act of November 3 as well as for establishing rule of law in the country.

President Lahore High Court Bar Association (SCBA), Anwar Kamal, expressed sorrow over fresh oath of judges and said government was maneuvering to fizzle out the lawyers movement which, he added, would not come to end till restoration of all judges particularly, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The lawyers’ movement, he said, would not be hampered by the re-appointment of the judges as their fight is for the rule of law in the country. Kamal condemned the way government was playing politics on an important issue. Fresh oath, he said, is amounts to accepting the PCO and action of judges’ removal through it.
