LAHORE - The fifth death anniversary of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, known as father of democracy, was observed across the country on Saturday.

Nawabzada Nasrullah (1918-2003) was a senior and renowned political figure in Pakistan. Just before his death, he was the chairman of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) working tirelessly for the restoration of democracy in the country against Pervez Musharraf’s illegal rule.

His political career spanned over half a century. His willingness to forge alliances with opposing political parties became an almost permanent feature of his leadership.

Hailing from Muzaffargarh in southern Punjab, he entered in politics as a young man in the late 1930s. His earliest association was with Majlis Ahrar-e-Islam, a relatively small political party.
