Citizens continue to suffer power outages

LAHORE - Citizens continued to suffer power outages on Monday as electricity crisis get worse with shortfall enhancing to 2,000 megawatts just in a single day.

As Pakistan Electric Power Corporation (PEPCO) officials claimed, electricity demand has climbed to 16,000 megawatt due to change in weather. On the other hand overall power generation has reduced to 14,000 megawatt due to cut in hydel production by IPPs.

While, in Lesco region, 350,000 consumers presently using 24,00MW of electricity while Lesco was being provided only 1,800MW, leading to a scarcity of 600MW, said Lesco spokesman M Javed, while talking to The Nation.

He said that Lesco has announced the schedule of load-shedding, according to which five-hour cut in urban areas while six-hour cut would be observed in rural areas. However, Pepco officials said that power cut would be reduced to a certain level during Eid holidays owing to less power demand for commercial and industrial sectors.
