Midfield can drive Rangers to treble, says Davis

October 31, 2008

GLASGOW (AFP) - Steve Davis believes that Rangers have a midfield strong enough in depth and quality to help the Ibrox club collect a domestic treble this season.

The Northern Ireland skipper, who spent time on loan at the club last season, became a permanent addition to the Rangers squad in the summer along with Portuguese playmaker Pedro Mendes and American Maurice Edu. Captain Barry Ferguson is set to return from his four-month injury absence against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday in their Scottish Premier League clash and the Ibrox club also have Kevin Thomson, Lee McCulloch and Charlie Adam all fighting for a midfield spot.

And Davis has no doubt that the Light Blues have now assembled a midfield strong enough to compete for trophies over the next few years. He said: "We are looking very strong in midfield now. With Barry Ferguson hopefully ready to make his comeback against Inverness on Saturday and myself, Kevin Thomson and Pedro Mendes all in there. "The likes of Lee McCulloch, Maurice Edu and Charlie Adam are in the mix as well, so we have the depth in quality to take the club forward over the next few years.
