Pakistan trounce hapless Bangladesh

KARACHI - Host Pakistan began as co favorite to clinch the six nation 9th Asia Cup held first time on Pakistani soil but finished third on the final ranking table after they bashed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the last super four league here on an event on Friday night.

After Pakistan lost to India in group B league and suffered defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka, they were ousted from the title race. When they met Bangladesh they were looking for a consolation third position which they achieved without breaking a sweat.

After dismissing Bangladesh for paltry 115, the lowest total of the championship, Pakistani left handed pair of Salman Butt and Nasir Jamshed put on 116 without being separated in the fourth ball of the 20 overs to win by 10 wickets which was the biggest winning margin in terms of wicket in the championship which will end with India/Sri Lanka final on Sunday night.

The PCB has already decided to issue 10,000 free entry tickets and ply 32 busses from eight vantage point to and from the stadium for the convenience of the fans.

Salman Butt was unbeaten 56 made in 62 balls with the help of nine fours and new batting sensation Nasir Jamshed was unbeaten 52 scored in 56 balls. He hit five fours and two sixes.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh skipper Mohamed Ashraful won the toss sent his openers young Tamim Iqbal and Nazimuddin to open.

The two could not cope with the pace attack of Sohail Tanveer and Abdur Rauf who struck the first blow making one rise menacingly and as he edged Shoaibl Malik took a simple catch.
