Big gun Shoaib fails to fire

LAHORE - Speedster Shoaib Akhtar failed to impress in the first match of his team Islamabad Leopards against Peshawar Panthers in the RBS National T20 Cup here late Saturday night at the Gaddafi Stadium.

In the Panthers' 14 runs win, Akhtar took one wicket in four overs conceding 30 runs and made just three runs.

Panthers made 175 for seven with Yasir Hameed making 33, Janisasr Khan 41 and Test cricketer Younis Khan 45. Akhtar's teammate Rauf Khan got three wickets for 26 runs. Rao Iftikhar and Imad Wasim shared one wicket apiece.

In reply, Panthers could make 161 for nine. Umair Khan 37, Fayyaz Ahmed 23, Naeem Anjam 38 were the main scorers.

Zohaib Khan got three wickets, Fazale Akbar had two while Umar Gul and Aslam Qureshi shared one each. Zohaib and Umair were the players on debut.
