PCB women wing recasting training for World Cup
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER October 6, 2008 KARACHI - The Pakistan Cricket Boards women's wing is recasting its training programme after the West Indies women's team citing security reasons decided to put on hold its tour of Pakistan due to start from 14th of this month.
A cricket official with the PCB women wing, when contacted on Monday, said that the West Indies had not cancelled but only postponed its visit which was to start October 14 and may revisit its decision to tour Pakistan or not only after its Sri Lankan sojourn.
The West Indies was to visit Pakistan October 14 November 1 to play a number of ODI's in Karachi and Hyderabad before flying out to Sri Lanka to play there ODI's between November 5-12.
However in view of the new development regarding the visit of the Caribbean's, the women's wing was mulling over recasting its training programme.
The PCB was to hold a training camp at Karachi to prepare team for the West Indies tour and now when the tour had been postponed, the camp may not be held and a revised training programme will be formed. It would take two to three days to discuss and finalize fresh programme.
The West Indies will now fly directly to Sri Lanka and there they may rethink over their plan to skip Pakistan part of their Sub-continental tour.
The source was hopeful that The West Indies team may rethink over the issue again and may come to Pakistan.
Playing matches against the West Indies was an important part of Pakistan's training programme to prepare for coming March's world cup in Australia. Though the training process has suffered a mild jolt but the women's wing was confident that by recasting the training programme it would regain the time and training lost. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies have qualified to play in the event.
