Pakistan overwhelmed athlete Naseem Hameed with a heros welcome on Thursday after she became South Asias fastest woman by winning the 100-metre race in the regional games in Bangladesh. The 22-year-old clocked 11.81 seconds to clinch gold medal in the race in the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games Sunday, becoming Pakistans first female athlete to win the sprint in the competitions 26-year history. Naseem was mobbed by hundreds of fans and relatives at Karachi international airport and was then whisked to a formal reception. She has been awarded prizes of 500,000 rupees from Pakistans sports ministry, 200,000 rupees from Karachi Mayor Mustafa Kamal and 100,000 rupees from the Pakistan Athletics Federation.
