Have some pity on cricket, PCB!

ISLAMABAD – After watching the abysmal performance of the senior Pakistani batsmen against the Kiwis on Monday night in Abu Dhabi, there is one question that arises in the mind of every cricket-lover in the country: why is Younus Khan still leading the team, despite it being almost a fact that he doesn’t deserve a place in the starting eleven ,at least in ODIs.
Younus already inflicted damage on his team in the Champions Trophy with his ridiculous catch drop at a crucial stage of the semi-final against the Kiwis. Had that catch been taken, the outcome of the match would surely have been much different.
Younus has scored only two half-centuries in his last 19 ODIs.
No doubt Younus is a good Test player, but it cannot be denied that his place in the ODI squad is a great risk. The skipper should be a role model not only for the team but also for others, and resign again like he did before.
The example of Imran Khan is worth mentioning here, as he is a true legend by all means. The 1992 World Cup is a classic example of his leadership qualities. Despite having a relatively weaker squad, he managed to steer his team to victory in the World Cup.
With the announcement of the 2011 World Cup schedule, the PCB must stop experimenting further and handover the captaincy to Shahid Afridi. Shahid Afridi has all the qualities that captaincy demands: respect from fellow players, exemplary leadership skills, far-sightedness, and aggressive nature. Furthermore, captaincy at this stage can enable him to have a better understanding of the players, and adopt a clear vision for the 2011 World Cup.
