ISLAMABAD - The probe committee of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has recommended a two-year ban on national athletes Muhammad Shah and Noshi Perveen from both national and international competition.
Chairman committee, Lt. Col (retd) Muhammad Yahya told reporters on Friday here in his office that the committee recommended two years ban on both the athletes after listening their views.
Muhammad Shah and Noshi Perveen tested positive in their dope tests which were taken by the AFP before selecting the duo for the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, which would be kicked off from August 8, as Pakistan got wild card entry for each man and women in the Olympics.
Besides Lt. Col (R) Muhammad Yahya, who is also associate secretary Pakistan Olympic Association, other members Dr. Waqar Ahmed from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Major Mehmood Ahmed from Pakistan Army, Dr. Lubna Sibtain also from PSB and Wing Commander Farooq Bukhari from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) also attended the proceeding.
Yahya said that Muhammad Shah, a 110-metre hurdler, was found positive for using drug Stanozolol (hydroxystanozolol) and female athlete Noshi Parveen, a 100-meter hurdler, tested positive for using Nandrolone (19-norandrosterone) with a level at 47.23 mg/ml, greater than the threshold of 2 mg/ml, which is a clear breach of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules 32-2 (a).
"We followed the rules of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). According to rules, on the first offence an athlete is penalized for two years and we recommended the same for Muhammad Shah and Noshi Perveen," he added.
