Published: December 15, 2008

LAHORE - The 54 holes 25th Governor's Cup Golf Tournament, endorsed by Millat Tractors, concluded at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Sunday and right till the very end of the final round, it became difficult to predict the winner.
The ultimate winner Mohsin Zafar (Gym) and Hussain Hamid (Royal Palm) matched each other stroke for stroke and even when the final hole ended, their scores were level. In such a case, the tournament rules require a comparison over the last 18 holes and thereafter if they are still level, then their scores over last 36 holes are compared and lucky for Mohsin Zafar that his score was one stroke better than Hussain Hamid.
And through this unexpected stroke of luck, the moment of glory tilted into Mohsin's lap and he became the proud winner of the Governor's Cup 2008. That however does not take the credit away from Mohsin as he has played extremely well in this tournament over the past three days, his scores being net 70, 73 and net 68 on the final day, giving him a three days match aggregate of 211, 5-under par.
Undoubtedly, Hussain Hamid except for the second round which was not to noteworthy, has remained in the race and his round of net 67 on the final day is ample demonstration of his golfing prowess.
Hussain is still a youngster and during the current year, whenever he has competed in any golf tournament, he has been amongst the contenders. In the net event, Mohsin Zafar had an net aggregate score of 211, the runner-up Hussain Hamid also had the same score while Muhammad Hassan Saeed of Gymkhana came third with a net 216, his daily rounds comprising of net 72, 73 and 71.
For the overnight leader, Aadil Jehangir, the final round turned out to be a miserable one. After having excelled over two days, he somehow lost focus towards the close of his first nine holes and shockingly double bogied the par-4, 6th and the par-5, 8th and this disaster helped his competitors to take over the pace.
