Tanveer in limelight with all-round show
Tanveer Ahmed hit superb 88 in 98 balls to carry Karachi Blues first innings beyond 400 against Faisalabad on the second day of the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match here Tuesday at the National Stadium.
With captain Muhammad Sami 41 not out, he added 121 for the 9th wicket stand that boosted the home teams total to 401. At the close of play, Faisalabad had replied with 188 for four wickets.
Tanveer basically a pacer, is flowering into a superb all rounder. He is as effective with the ball as with the bat. He hit 18 fours and two sixes in his innings of 98 balls.
When Karachi Blues resumed their innings at overnight total of 293 for eight, Tanveer Ahmed was unbeaten 37 and Muhammad Sami 10 not out. The two batted well facing five-pronged Faisalabad attack. The visitors toiled hard but could not break the partnership early. It ended with the dismissal of Tanveer Ahmed who was caught by substitute off Zahoor Khan who finished with three wickets. Ahmed Hayat picked up a five-wicket haul for Faisalabad giving away 87 runs.
Taveer struck early when Faisalabad started their reply. In his second over, he removed opener Farrukh Shahzad for a duck. Three more wickets fell with Tariq Haroon Sheharyar Ghani and Atif Maqbool taking a wicket apiece.
But without defiant batting from Ammar Mehmood (78) and Zeeshan Asif, the visitors would not have averted a batting disaster. The two added 93 for the third wicket to steer their team to comparatively to safer shores.
Zeeshan Asif was unbeaten 54 when the play ended on the second day.
Despite a healthy first innings total of 188, Faisalabad with six wickets in hand still need 64 more runs to avoid follow on.
