SYDNEY (Agencies) Brett Lee has returned to Sydney for treatment to his elbow due to security concerns in India, according to his agent. The Australian fast bowler, who represents the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, travelled home for a check-up on his recently repaired elbow.
Lees manager, Neil Maxwell, was quoted in the Age as saying: From a security point of view hed prefer to be spending the time waiting in Sydney rather than Chandigarh. Lee has apparently received medical clearance from Cricket Australia and will soon return to India for the third season of IPL action.
There were, however, conflicting reports from Punjab CEO Anil Srivats, who claimed that Lees decision to head back to Australia for treatment had nothing to do with security.
There is enough precedence to know that this (kind of) stuff can always be cooked up, he said.
After recently retiring from Test cricket, Lee has set his sights on representing his country at the World Twenty20 in the Carribean next month and then at the World Cup in 2011. The IPL will provide him with the perfect opportunity to get back into action and stake a claim to get back into the Australian limited-overs fold.
The fast bowler, who has been training under the guidance of former New South Wales physiotherapist Pat Farhart, has been in close communication with Cricket Australia, who said that his return home was part of a plan to ease him back to fitness before the final 15-man World Twenty2d squad was announced.
The Kings XI Punjab will be eager to get their big sheet anchor back into the fold after losing their opening two games.
