Pakistan Olympic contingent to leave for China today

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's 34-member contingent will leave for Beijing on July 31 to participate in the 29th Olympic Games scheduled to be held from August 8 to 24 in the capital city of China.
A spokesman for Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) said on Monday that all the arrangements had been finalised regarding the departure of the national contingent.
"All the members of the contingent will embark on the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight at 4pm from Islamabad International Airport, which will land at Beijing," he added.
"Initially, a shooter had to join the contingent from Germany but now he will join the squad from Islamabad. Pakistan will feature in four disciplines including hockey, shooting, swimming and athletics. Pakistan qualified for hockey while our athletes got wild card entries in shooting, swimming and athletics events," he said. He further said that 21 players and 9 officials of the four games would be the part of contingent while five officials of the contingent including Chef-de-Mission Syed Aqil Shah would visit China to represent Pakistan in the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
The officials: Muhammad Aqil Shah (chef-de-mission), Dr. Waqar Ahmed (doctor), Brig Saleem Nawaz (secretary), Muhammad Akhtar Nawaz Gungeera (finance secretary), Captain (retrd) Zafar Iqbal Awan (security official).
Athletics: Haji Khalid Mehmood (manager), Abdul Rasheed, Sadaf Siddiqui (players).
Swimming: Major Majid Waseem (manager), Venna Masood (women's coach), Adil Baig, Kiran Khan (players).
Shooting: Khalid Javad (manager) Saddique Umer (players).
Hockey: Zakauddin (manager-cum-coach), Naveed Alam (coach), Faizur Rahman (physio), Nadeem Ahmed Lodhi (video -analyst), Salam Akbar, Nasir Ali, Zeshan Ashraf (captain), Muhammad Imran (vice captain), Syed Imran Ali Warsi, Adnan Maqsood, Muhammad Saqlain, Rana Asif, Muhammad Javad, Muhammad Waqas, Rehan Butt, Shakil Abbasi, Muhammad Zubair, Shafqat Rasool, Waqas Akbar and Abbas Haider (players).
