Ranatunga tells ICC Pakistan is safe for Champions Trophy
By SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT July 22, 2008 LAHORE - Sri Lanka Cricket chief and captain of World Cup winning squad Arjuna Ranatunga said Monday Pakistan was as safe a country for cricket as any other country.
According to reports reaching here from Dubai, the Sri Lankan cricket boss conveyed this to the ICC which discussed the security situation in Pakistan and the concerns for the Champions Trophy to be held in September.
"We have no problem in playing in Pakistan or India. Pakistan hosted six teams very well recently at the Asia Cup and I was there for the final. It was very well organised," said the 1996 World Cup-winning former Test and ODI captain at a media conference in Colombo. "So far the championship is in Pakistan and we have been told we are in the stand-by position," he added.
