Ashraful lifts Bangladesh with captain's knock
By ASHER BUTT June 25, 2008 LAHORE - Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful steered his team with a captain's knock of 109 to 300 for eight in the Group A opener against the United Arab Emirates at the Gaddafi stadium here on Tuesday.
Bangladesh got off to a healthy start after losing its opener but before a first setback it managed a 95-run partnership between Tamim Iqbal and Ashraful.
Tamim added 41 before getting run out but Bangladesh captain maintained the runs from the other end bringing in 141 runs for the third wicket with Raqibul Hasan, who hammered 83 off just 63 balls, before UAE pulled them back with four quick wickets.
