Rs 787.396 allocated for IT sector in budget

The government has earmarked Rs 787.396 million for information technology sector in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2012-13 for ongoing and new projects. According to the budgetary document released on Friday 50 million have been allocated for construction of border optical fiber cable (OFC) system between china and  Pakistan for international activity of voice, Rs 60 million for National ICT scholarship program to provide scholarships to 400 students in various national universities. Rs 100 million have been embarked for lying of OFC to connect remote areas of the Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). For GSM expansion of Gilgit Baltistan Rs 120 million, De-regulation facilitation unit (DFU) by MOIT Rs 8 million, while Rs 8.500 million have been embarked for international coordination unit. Rs 10 million have been embarked for land revenue records management system in rural areas of ICT Islamabad, Rs 5.500 have been allocated for establishing of research & development unit.
