AN (APP) - Employees and pensioners widely hailed the fifteen per cent raise in salaries and 15-20 per cent increase in pensions in the federal budget 2011-12.
Employees of different departments, when contacted, said that the raise in salaries and pensions was a bold and worker-friendly decision of the government despite financial hardships. They termed the increase as a pleasant development. Zahid Mehmood, an APCA Khanewal office-bearer, declared the salary raise below their expectations. He, however, added that the proposal of adjusting 2009 salary raise and last years 50 per cent ad-hoc relief in the basic pay besides revision in pay scales was commendable if approved. It would help low cadre employees manage their family budgets with some degree of ease amid price hike.
APCA Khanewal leader said that all of their demands including establishment of clerks foundation, big city allowance, group insurance payment after retirement to all employees, increase in medical allowance and marriage grant be also accepted. Chaudhry Yousuf, a retired headmaster, Mahr Ali Sher, and Ansar Mehmood Qazi were include among those who welcomed the increase in pensions.
