RE (APP) - The Pakistan Railways administration retrieved around 142 acres of land worth Rs 1.219 billion from encroachers during the year of 2010.
According to PR sources on Sunday, the PR owned 167,690 acres across the country from which 90,326 acres situated in Punjab province, 39,428 acres in Sindh, 28,228 acres in Balochistan, while 9,708 acres land is situated in Khyber Pakht-oonkhwa. As many as 126,426 acres land is being utilized for operational use, 16,554 acres have been allocated for future operational ,14,609 acre land has been leased to several parties, 4149 acre land has been occupied by encroachers, 403 acre land is occupied by Katchi Abadies, 362 acre land is being used as commercial purposes while 5,187 acre land is barren or cultiviable.
According to the details of leased land, 12,567 acres have been leased for agricultural purposes, 147 acres for storage or godowns, 22 acres for shops, 23 acres for parking areas, 1,137 for PR employees housing societies, 5 acres to postal department, 354 acres to the food department, 116 acres to other government departments and 238 acres land for long term marketing mega projects.
The Pakistan Railway generated Rs 3,866 million from commercial projects during last year while Rs 2,425 million from agricultural and other leases during the last five years.
