MILAN - Italian inflation fell slightly to 3.2 percent in May over a 12-month period, after three months at 3.3 percent, according to an estimate by the official data agency Istat on Wednesday.

The drop in inflation was mainly the result of a fall in energy prices, including motor fuel, which dipped by 1.6 percent. Prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks rose 2.0 percent compared to 2.4 percent in April and the price rise for transportation slowed.
