KARACHI - Sindh Board of Investment Chairman Zubair Motiwala has said that Sindh government recently approved allotment of 347,434 acres of land for nine Fast Track Wind Power projects and Revenue Department granted 30 years land lease to all projects through investment under Renewable Energy Policy 2006.
Motiwala, while presiding a meeting in the office of Investment Department, Government of Sindh, said that province is blessed with enormous potential for wind Energy resource which if tapped can generate more than 50,000 MW. Wind Corridor (Gharo-Jhampir) is 60 KM wide and 180 KM long with average wind speed of 7-8 meter/sec.
He said Sindh government has taken strong measures to unfold this opportunity and have so far approved 26 wind projects which will be commissioned within next one year and will generate more than 1,000 MW.
SBI Chairman said that efficient solution to energy crisis can only be achieved by encouraging investment in Renewable Energy Projects. All these 9 fast track projects have submitted non refundable guarantees under the new policy envisaging commissioning of commercial operations by March 31, 2013.
Furthermore Sindh government is simultaneously pursuing few other fast track cases including M/s NBT for installation of 500 MW. Under these commitments, a total 797.4 MW can be installed by end of March, 2013, he added.
