CHI (PR) - SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) and German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) will soon sign an MoU to implement SAARC Trade Information Project (TIP).
This was resolved during a meeting held between the officials of SAARC CCI headed by Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President, Zubair A Malik, Executive Committee Member, Muhammad Iqbal Tabish, Secretary General, SAARC CCI and a three member team of German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) comprising Dr Oliver John Krueck, consultant on SAARC Trade Information Project (TIP), Roshanjith Siriniwasa, Advisor Information and Communication Technology, SAARC TIP and Shreedhar Gautam, Director SAARC Information.
The role of SAAR CCI as the com-implementing partner along with SAARC Information Centre was acknowledged during the meting and the participants discussed the operational scope of SAARC CCI for implementing SAARC TIP.
Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President SAARC CCI termed this initiative as an instrumental to promote economic cooperation in the region through exchange of information, which will help bring business community of the region closer together.
Trade Information Project is an initiative of GTZ, which aim at promoting economic cooperation in South Asia through establishing an easy accessible trade database for traders by connecting trade databases within the SAARC countries to a common SAARC entry point for trade information. The second operational Committee Meeting has been scheduled on April 2-3, 2009 at Colombo, Sri Lanka.
