Farmers advised to use certified seeds

LAHORE: Cultivation of cotton, rice and paddy has been started in the country and 75 per cent of our export is dependant on these crops so it is imperative to ensure their sowing on maximum land. Pak Agri Forum Chairman Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal told APP on Friday that production of 16 million tons of cotton bales, 7.5 million tons rice and 70 million tons sugarcane was necessary to reduce the financial trade deficit.

Mughal advised farmers to use certified varieties of seeds and also to use the fertilizers properly. He said the DAP sack price should be reduced to Rs 3,300, Urea to Rs 1,200 and Potash to Rs 3,400. He demanded the government to fix the price of per maund cotton up to Rs 4,000, cotton left over crop to Rs 2,000 and sugarcane to Rs 250 per maund to facilitate farmers.
