SC bars OGRA from issuing weekly notification

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday ordered Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to submit a report on weekly revision of petroleum products since August 15.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard a petition filed against weekly review of oil prices by the petroleum ministry.
The court directed OGRA officials to submit details of hike in petroleum prices and reasons behind it, observing that OGRA is not entitled to raise fuel rates without hearing consumers’ point of view. “All of them are involved in looting and plundering the consumers,” Justice Khwaja said.
The CJP issued directives to OGRA that it will not issue notification over the new prices of petroleum on weekly basis.
The CJP said that an order over the CNG prices being coupled with that of petrol will be issued within next three days.
