February 25, 2011

LAHO RE - Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has urged the government immediately announce rehabilitation plan for the affected traders of Shah Alam Market inferno. These views were expressed by the Chairman PIAF Sohail Lashari while talking to a delegation of Shah Alam Market businessmen here on Thursday. He said that it was very unfortunate that despite passage of more than half of a month neither any concrete steps for the rehabilitation of the affectees of Shah Alam Market fire were taken by the government nor any measures were taken to avert any such incident in future. He urged the government immediately compensate the fire-affected traders of Shahlam Market so that they could be able to restart their businesses. Sohail Lashari said that provincial capital had met dozens terrible fire incidents. He said that in 1996 goods worth billion rupees turned to ashes at Lahore Dry Port, in February 2004 a department store in Liberty Market gutted, in February 2005 another departmental store in the same market faced huge loss due to fire, a few weeks later more than 35 shopkeepers of Bhandara Center, Ichhra lost everything in a sudden fire, in February 2009 and December 2010 fire incidents took place at Hafeez Center. He said that various Plastic and Chemical units of Lahore Township Industrial Estate also destroyed due to fire incident. He said that in the most of cases, fire could easily be controlled but due to lack of fire fighting facilities and poor condition of fire tenders the situation remained out of control.
