Rs 3.6b loan okayed for 747MW plant

ISLAMABAD - Finance Ministry has given its approval over the request of Central Power Generation Company Limited seeking Rs 3.60 billion worth cash development loan for 747MW combined cycle power plant (CCPP) at Guddu in order to enhance country’s power generation.

Well-placed sources aware of the development told TheNation that Finance Ministry in a bid to meet electric power requirements of the country has finally approved a cash development loan worth Rs3.60 billion only to start power production from 747MW Guddu Thermal Power Plant. This hefty cash development loan would be later on given to the Harbin Power Engineering China, the EPC contractor of the project that had ostensibly warned to quit from the project. They said power production from a modern power plant (747mw CCPP) installed at Guddu is expected to start by October this year.
They said the power plant will help the government in coping with increasing demand of electricity and will enhance power supply to this area, make the supply more reliable and improve the quality of service.
It is worth mentioning that the power project comprising a 747MW combined cycle power plant is consisting of two gas turbines of 243MW each, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) followed by one steam turbine having a capacity of 261MW and associated equipment. Site for the proposed power plant is located within the premises of the existing Guddu power plant complex in Kashmore district of Sindh.
