MULTAN   -  The Mango Growers Association feared a 20 per cent reduction in mango export this year due to loadshedding and political issues. Mango Growers Association President Maj (R) Tariq told APP here on Monday that mango export remained 1,25,000 tonnes in 2011 which was likely to reduce to one lakh tonne during the current year year. Last month's windstorm, high cost of inputs on mango orchards, recent political issues and electricity shortage posed immense problems for local mango growers, he added. He said political situation of country was also affecting mango exports as exporters were not ready to invest. Tariq also expressed concern that Multan airport also lacked cold storage and cargo facilities which was a hurdle for export. He demanded the government to ensure early provision of cold storage and cargo facilities at airport because the local business community had to rush to Lahore or Karachi which increased the cost and deprived mango growers of reasonable profit.
