LAHORE – Tuwairqi Steel Mills Limited (TSML) has started delivery of DRI in the country and first consignment was delivered to Shalimar Steel Mills Lahore through Shajarpak (Pvt.) Ltd, its authorised Sales and Marketing agent for Pakistan. The DRI pellets were packed in poly propylene jumbo bags for safe transportation.
Zaigham Adil Rizvi, Director (Projects), TSML while expressing his gratitude, congratulated the production and logistic teams on sending off the first consignment within 15 days of the commercial inauguration of the DRI Plant. He said that although TSML has secured various orders for DRI pellets from neighboring countries, domestic exports would be its priority in order to facilitate high quality steel manufacturing in the country. “Pakistan is among the countries that rely mostly on imports when it comes to heavy mechanical structures and engineering goods. By producing high-quality steel within Pakistan we can manufacture such equipment locally by value addition with the help of downstream industries,” he concluded.
It is pertinent to note that Al-Tuwairqi has recently kicked off the commercial production of TSML’s 1st phase; a Direct Reduction of Iron (DRI) making plant with the capacity to produce up to 1.28 million tons per annum of high quality Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), which is evidently steel’s most versatile metallic and a preferred raw material for quality steel making worldwide. The first phase has been completed with an overall investment of $350 million.
