KARACHI - TDAP is going to import the 5,000 seeds of Japonica rice for cultivation in the country and then export to commodity. TDAP CE Tariq Iqbal said this in a meeting with traders at here on Friday.
He said price of Japonica rice is around $1000 per ton while Pakistan’s traditional rice is being sold at the rate of around $400 per ton. He said that traders should focus on non-textile products to meet current year’s export target.

He said next seven months of the current fiscal year are likely to be difficult for the country to meet its export targets due to irregular supply of electricity and gas, but could be achieved by exporting non-textile products like plastic, meat, minerals, value added products, rice, mango, etc.
“Despite current load shedding of utilities, the country has still increased its five months exports by ten percent.
He said textile sector contributed a huge portion of about 56 percent out of total exports pervious year.
