A resilient nation

The growing discontentment with the leadership within the country is obvious from Pew Research Centre’s Global Attitude Project that has come up with the finding that 95 percent of Pakistanis are unhappy with their leadership. The opinion is a severe indictment of the present lot of leaders at the helm. The good news is that Pakistan was ranked in the same list of countries whose population believes that they can succeed in life with hard work. The poll also reveals that people’s reaction to their economies since 2008 is largely pessimistic the world over. Of the 21 countries, the research covered, China is the only nation whose people are happy with their personal social conditions as well as their national economy.
The scale of the resentment in Pakistan, the research has highlighted should give sleepless nights to the leadership that too has, all intents and purposes, failed to live up to their expectations. Pakistan’s problems under the present setup have multiplied to the extent that the ordinary man seems almost unable to make a living. Hence their disappointment! But as the people still have faith in their abilities, it is obvious that the element of resilience is also there, which is no small a consolation given all that they have been subjected to. It is hoped that this wish for collective improvement would make itself felt through the ballot box in the upcoming elections.
