Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that irrespective of any pressure, the judiciary would continue to decide cases in line with the spirit of the Constitution. He went on to say that the courts would go to any extent to establish the writ of the state and would not budge from this objective. On the other hand, the PPP government insists that all state institutions must stay within their limits and do not become instrumental in destabilizing the democratic system in the country. It accuses the superior judiciary of being biased, taking up cases against the President or PPP leaders while more important cases were lying pending since long. Another argument being projected is that the higher courts could only interpret the Constitution and should desist from re-writing the Constitution since it was the prerogative of the legislature to do so.
