LAHORE - Senior bureaucrat Capt (r) Naveed Akram Cheema was posted as administrative boss of the Punjab. Establishment Division issued a notification and the new chief sectary assumed charge Saturday evening.
Cheema, a Grade-22 DMG officer, is the second chief sectary (CS) brought in by the PML-N since it retook reigns of the province after May 2013 elections. Outgoing CS Javed Aslam was elevated as Secretary to the PM a couple of days back.
During his career, Cheema served in Punjab as secretary of sports, forest, excise and taxation, and Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) Commissioner as well as at some other key positions.
When he was secretary of forest, wildlife and fisheries department in July 2008, Naveed Akram Cheema was repatriated to the Establishment Division by then-CS Javed Mehmood for poor performance and for not taking proper care of the birds and animals at Jallo Park.
After taking charge, the new CS chaired meeting of District Coordination Officers of the province Saturday evening. Sources said that the agenda of the meeting was price control, dengue issue, Black Day on Kashmir Conflict, law and order on Muharramul Haram, and some other issues. The CS urged the DCOs to invest their energies in overcoming the challenges and directed them to accelerate development works in the province.
Meanwhile, Rashid Mehmood Langrial has been posted as Lahore commissioner. Langrial has also served as secretary of Implementation & Coordination (additional charge), DCO of Rawalpindi and Khanewal as well as chairperson of Lahore Ring Road Authority. A couple of days back, former commissioner Imdadulla Bosal was transferred owing to conflict with DCO Nasim Sadiq.
